INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE COURSE IGNOU MPCL 7 PRACTICAL FILE FIRST YEAR (MA PSYCHOLOGY)
The IGNOU’s MA Psychology Program will welcome you to the laboratory-based practicum course. MPCL-007 is the course code, and it is worth 8 credits. This course will teach you how to perform tests and execute experiments in a safe environment, such as a laboratory. The research and tests will be performed on a human subject, and you will be the experimenter or test administrator. This condition will be reversed at times, when you will be doing practicals for your classmates during the course. The exercises and experiments are linked to different subjects that you have studied or can read in this program’s theory courses. You will be closely watched by your academic counsellor when using the content. You will administer the test, score it, and analyse the results and conclusions using a normal protocol. You can also hear about ethical problems of laboratory practise.
LIST OF IGNOU MA PSYCHOLOGY MPCL 7 FIRST YEAR PRACTICUM
The following practicals are to be conducted by the learners who are going to submit IGNOU MA PSYCHOLOGY PRACTICAL FILE FIRST YEAR MPCL 7:
• Intelligence Testing (Bhatia Battery)
• Personality Testing (16 PF)
• Test for Social Behaviour (Vineland Social Maturity Scale)
• Family Pathology Scale
• Sociometry
• Problem Behaviour Checklist
• Span of Attention Experiment
• Memory Experiment
Experiments are primarily used to investigate the cause and effect interaction between independent and dependent variables. The subject must be active during the procedure so he or she not only completes a task but is also diligent in monitoring and documenting one’s own mental behaviour when conducting the task to the experimenter. This is often referred to as a ‘introspective study.’
The psychology laboratory will host all eight practicals. Five of the above eight practicals must be written in correct format in the Practicum Notebook. This notebook will be evaluated by the relevant academic psychologist. The actual conduct of practicals and reporting it in the practical notice book (internal assessment) carries 50% weightage, whilst the Term End Examination of Practicals like vivavoce (external assessment) carries 50% weightage.

The notebook should be handwritten and reviewed by the academic psychologist who supervised your practicals.
3) Writing Format for a IGNOU MA Psychology First Year MPCL 7 Practical File
The academic counsellor will explain the style that you would use when planning the practicum notebook.
• Title: This heading would include the practical’s “title” or “name,” for example: 16 PF / Span of focus.
• Aims/ Goals: These would essentially consist of the practical’s core objectives or intent. For eg, if you are administering a test on ’16 PF,’ the simple goal of the test would be: ‘To measure the subject’s personality using 16 PF.’
• Hypothesis/es (written only in the case of experiments): It is necessary to make a preliminary assumption about the cause and effect relationship between the independent and dependent variables.
• Introduction: This section discusses the historical context of the test/experiment. The definition is described and explored in detail. In the case of 16 PF, for example, the historical history of 16 PF is defined. The term “personality” is described, and ideas about it are debated.
• Explanation of the Test/Experiment: This section contains information about the test/experiments, such as the author of the test, the general objective of the test, the number of objects, dimensions/factors used in the test, the time limit, efficiency, validity, and scoring.
• Materials Needed: The materials available for administering the test/experiment are mentioned. In the case of 16 PF, for example, the test booklet, answer sheet, scoring key, pencil, and eraser are needed.
• Participant Profile: Which would include all of the participant’s detailed details, such as name (optional), age, ethnicity, educational qualification, and occupation.
• Procedure and Administration: This section includes the subheadings mentioned below.
Preparation: The materials required for the test/experiment, such as the test booklet, equipment or instrument, response sheet, and stopwatch, are kept on hand.
Rapport: You must state that rapport was established with the participant and that s/he was kept up to date on the specifics of the test/experiment.
Instructions: These are the instructions provided in the test manual/experiment.
Take the following precautions: This subheading specifies any precautions that should be taken before administering the test/experiment.
Introspective Report: After the conclusion of the test/experiment by the subject, an introspective report is to be taken, in which the participant’s feelings and restrictions encountered when undergoing the test/experiment are stated in the first person under this subheading.
• Scoring and Interpretation: After the pupil has completed the exam, the response sheet should be scored using the scoring key, and the data should be interpreted using the manual’s norms. Under this heading, the scores can be listed and interpreted. The results of tests must be analysed and recorded here.
• Discussion: You must analyse the outcome depending on your understanding. It should be examined more in light of the introspective report. In the case of trials, the findings can be confirmed by current field research.
• Conclusion: Under this heading, you must summarise the results of the test/experiment.
